Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development –BARD, Comilla Bangladesh
Established by Dr. Akhter Hameed Khan is well known in Asia and a large part of the wider world Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) is now an internationally acclaimed institute for its many innovative works in the field of rural development in Bangladesh. It is located in the outskirts of the city of Comilla, which is about 80 km away from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It has all modern facilities for organizing training, workshops, seminars, symposiums and conferences with excellent accommodation facilities for 280 participants. Including five modern dormitories, it has five AC classrooms, four AC conference halls one Computer center, one IT lab with 50 computers and a library with about 61,391 titles of books. There is a bank, a post office, a telegraph office, a cooperative store, medical centre and a sport complex including a tennis court. There is a VIP Guesthouse named Bano-Kutir, a cottage with a beautiful sylvan background. There are two verdant hilltops, which are named as Nilachal and Banasri. These are surrounded by a network of zigzag pacca roads cum walkways by the side of the hills in the shade of trees of various kinds.
Comilla popularly known as an academic and cultural city is one of the oldest cities in Bangladesh. There are many historical sites in Comilla. It includes a number of Buddhist monasteries, some of which were established in the 7th century AD. It also has a war symmetry of World War II, BARD, the birth place of cooperative movement, Comilla University and other educational institutes.
